Understanding Scale Lines and Proportion
For this Project we learned about proportion, Scale, foreground, middle ground and background. We copied this from Roxy's DP into our notebooks: The foreground, middle ground, and background in a composition are generally divided into three planes. The foreground of a composition is the visual plane that appears closest to the viewer, while the background is the plane in a composition perceived furthest from the viewer. The middle ground is the visual plane located between both the foreground and background. The scale of these components often correlates to the dominance in an image. The foreground is often the most dominant due to the larger perceived scale of the images objects. This is not always the case, however, as definition and other factors can shift the dominance of the composition.
Visually, we often refer to the scale of one object to another.
Visually, we often refer to the scale of one object to another.
- As objects come forward in space, towards the viewer, they appear larger, thicker, defining lines, more textured.
- As they recede into the background, their scale gets perceptually smaller, thinner lines, less clarity of details. This project was really interesting I didn't know there are so many components involved in photos, art and everyday life. We used many different methods to add the picture to the original and make it look realistic. We learned about zip files and how they help keeps us organized.

Art as Communication
For this project we studied the history of art and early man, we looked at how our ancestors used their resources to create paints and brushes, so they could express themselves. We drew wolfs, scanned our drawings, traced them and printed them out. After they were printed, we painted them with homemade yucca brushes and watered down pigments from chalk pastels. The goal was to learn how to create art with the resources around us Last, we created a cave using butcher paper and spray paint. We put up all of our drawings on the walls and on display.
Letter Portrait
WRITTEN DESCRIPTION: For this project the task was to take pictures of objects out side that make letters to spell our names. Then upload the picture to Photoshop. Then arrange them, add texture, color and light to make your name balanced and ascetically pleasing, The objective was to more deeply understand what it truly means to notice your every day environment.
