Mi Frida Es Malala
For this project, our task was to either pick a significant person in our lives that inspired us. Or choose a famous person that has influenced our lives and has done extraordinary things to improve our world, or help others. For example, Frida Khalo was a famous painter and very was resilient after a traumatic injury, her art inspired many and lead the way to a new generation of artists after we had chosen our "Frida's" or person that inspired us. The next task was to paint a portrait of them using some of Frida Khalos techniques. Last, we had to write an artist statement about our work; we had to incorporate significant images from their lives into our painting and explain why we chose our " Frida" and why they inspire us or have impacted our lives.
Reflection Questions:
1. Frida painted so many portraits of her self because she always thought "she is the person she knew best." After her accident, she felt so many different emotions and needed a way to express her self, and her art/self-portraits were the best way to do that — Frida Painted what she saw and how she saw herself. She used her art to come to terms with what happened and used it to become more confident with her body and how she looked after.
2/3. I am pleased with the way my portrait came out, at first I had a hard time aligning the eyes and nose to the face, but after adding colors, it was exactly how I envisioned it. The colors and details balanced the piece out.
4. I always thought Frida Khalo art was unique just like her, but after reading her book and learning what she went through, I understand why she painted the way she did, and I appreciate and value her art more than ever. She was such an inspiration to woman. Frida was in a bus accident but after she found a way to express herself and look at life in a whole new way. Frida was able to come to terms with what happened and still feel beautiful. She was resilient, Frida Kahlo was a figure who shaped history and helped a woman realize who they are and what they can do. She helped woman become more confident and independent.
